Ford India makes two powertrains: Engine energiser

ford ecosport india

Car Review, Car Sales | Ford India makes two powertrains: Engine energiser | Ford India said it would start making two new powertrains — the heart of a car comprising engines, transmission and other components that power a car — at its Chennai facility to be used in some of its new models, including the latest Ford Fiesta that was launched here at a muted function in the aftermath of the blasts.

The new Ford Fiesta marks the beginning of Ford’s plan to introduce eight global models in the country by 2015.

india-ford-fiesta-powertrainFord has invested $72 million in the Chennai engine plant, which will make the powertrains — the 1.5-litre TiVCT (petrol) and the 1.5-litre Duratorq TDCi (diesel). The capacity of the plant has been raised to 3,30,000 units from 2,50,000 units.

“It’s a flexi engine plant with the capability to produce both petrol and diesel engines,” said Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India. The current ratio between diesel and petrol engine stands at 60:40.

Ford-Focus-powertrain-india“We can adjust our production capacity according to the demand. If it’s more petrol engines that the market demands, our plant is geared to handle that,” he said.

The two powertrains will be used in the Ford Fiesta, EcoSport and Focus, which are among the wight launches planned by 2015.

“We will be launching a product every 12 to 18 months now. It’s an aggressive policy and we will have to do that if we are to survive in a market that will see 15 million vehicles by 2015,” Boneham added.

Talking on the new product line, Boneham said, “It will be a mix of volume generating products as well as others to cater to a whole cross-section of customers.”

Boneham said Ford was able to gain a foothold with the Figo. “It is obvious that the volumes will be generated in this segment (Figo’s). And it is interesting to note that many of our Figo customers were first-time buyers. It shows that the Indian consumer has matured and is looking for better products with better technology.” - Car Review, Car Sales

Top 2 Car Sales in the US 2011: Ford F-series, Chevrolet Silverado pickups | Car Sales | Japan earthquake in March left many car dealers in the United States hassling for cars, but the Honda Accord and Toyota  Camry continue to top the chart of auto sales in six months.

Car Review: 2011 Ford Edge

Ford-Edge-2011
Car Review: 2011 Ford Edge - The 2011 Ford Edge receives updated exterior styling, new engines and a revised interior. The exterior design is bold and fluid, with a wide grille, lower front fascia and spoiler. For 2011, Edge is powered by a 285-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 or the first application of the new Ford EcoBoost 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. Edge Sport is powered by a 305 hp 3.7-liter V6 engines are mated to all with 6-speed automatic transmission. Edge Sport includes 22-inch wheels of polished aluminum grille with black accents Tuxedo, Tuxedo Black, smoked headlights, smoked taillights, moldings, body color and chrome oval exhaust.

Paul Haggis: I've been a fan of the Ford Edge. The suspension is high enough so you can travel in the worst weather or conditions, but still low enough to be comfortable on paved roads. And as a four-wheel drive, the advantage can handle something that I never had to face. But as a front-wheel drive, which seems a little absurd. The interior is a perfect blend of space, utility and comfort to me. It is very luxurious, but not decadent. The product of many compromises, I'm always pleasantly surprised that the Edge is able to satisfy me. I would choose the edge over most other SUVs. And the brilliant Ford SYNC entertainment system is just icing on the cake.

Mike Meredith: The 2011 Ford Edge has been updated with a larger grille and a new front fascia to keep it fresh. The new 285-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission provides plenty of power, but I recommend to go with all-wheel drive option, not the standard front-wheel drive. The Edge is too big to feel the power going to the front wheels - you get some torque steer when accelerating hard, especially when cornering. It feels much more balanced with the power distributed to the four corners. The interior has also been improved, including shortcut buttons for the center console and two adjustable driver displays in the instrument cluster. Gone are the clunky square wheel spoke, replaced by a new three-spoke wheels that have a better feeling. One complaint: The headrests are designed to improve safety, but the way they force the driver's head rather than creating an uncomfortable driving position.

Perry Stern: the Ford Edge has been updated for 2011, as well as look and feel, and did a good job. Styling-wise, the Edge receives a bolder grille revised headlights, when the crossover a sportier look. 2011 Inside Edge has been updated with a new dashboard and steering wheel as well as new entertainment system Ford MyFord Touch. All controls are smooth - no key - which gives the instrument panel and a high-tech look. Unfortunately, I found the controls a little 'too sensitive at times were too sensitive, sometimes not at all. Edge gets more power in 2011 with fuel economy. I achieved 20 mpg in the city, which is a powerful vehicle of this size. Overall, the Edge is still an excellent choice for 5-passenger crossover market.

2011 Ford Mustang V6 Convertible - new car review

2011-Ford-Mustang-V6-Convertible
2011 Ford Mustang V6 Convertible - new car review; 2011 Ford Mustang V6 Convertible — Flash Drive: The roar of its exhaust note alone makes this ride worth the cost of admission. But when you combine that with aggressive styling and a 300-horsepower V6 engine, you have a match made in heaven, a pure joy to drive. This pony car always has power on tap, and it begs to be driven hard. It's also practical; I was able to achieve 19 mpg in mixed driving. Though far short of the 30 mpg quoted by Ford, that figure is still impressive. However, while the Blue Oval has improved the Mustang's interior over previous models, it still contains too much hard plastic for my taste. But after driving this car for several hours, it was easy to forget those faults and focus on the great engine and driving experience that the Mustang delivers. –Joe Chulick

After exterior updates for 2010, the Ford Mustang receives two all-new engines for 2011: a 3.7-liter V6 and a 5.0-liter V8. I drove the V6 convertible with the new base engine, a thoroughly modern 3.7-liter 305-horsepower V6 that severs any ties with Mustangs past. It features the latest engine technologies for performance and efficiency — and it's rated at 30 mpg highway. This high-performance all-aluminum V6 revs quickly to 7000 rpm with decent low-end torque and has a surprisingly throaty roar at higher rpm. As good as this engine is, I did occasionally miss the additional low-end grunt of a V8, but this car has all the power it needs. The clutch and 6-speed manual transmission are also new and spectacular; the clutch is smooth, and shifting is precise. Ford continues to move this pony closer to a true sports car — add the new 5.0-liter V8 and it may just cross that line. –Mike Meredith

cars with impressive fuel efficient line-up driving Ford sales 2011

cars with impressive fuel efficient line-up driving Ford sales 2011 - Impressive fuel efficient line-up of Ford Cars: Increased environmental awareness and $ 4 a gallon gas to much of the country has encouraged customers to look for smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles. Along April and May, we saw this trend continue, as oil prices continued to rise. Ford car sales were able to take advantage of this trend, because of technologies that Ford's pushing the fuel consumption has helped to build an impressive array of fuel-efficient vehicles.

Ford press release in May 3rd says the company has 12 vehicles that drive sales in the segments of the economy of fuel, including four certified vehicles 40 miles per gallon or more indexes EPA - claim no other manufacturer in its entirety line can match.

Many oil industry analysts expect oil prices and commodity prices remain at high levels at least in the short and medium term, given the political instability in some oil producing countries and continued growth economic development in emerging economies. This will further strengthen the trend of fuel efficient and  small cars and drive to turn market share and car sales of Ford in North America.

car sales grows 50% by middle of decade, Ford global sales

car sales grows 50% by middle of decade, Ford global sales - Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday Ford sales will grow by about 50 percent of the world's car sales of approximately EUR 8 million a year in the middle of the decade.

Much of this growth will occur in China and India, "said Ford.

In 2014, more than 140 percent of the overall portfolio of Ford will be new or significantly upgraded its 2009 range, said a Ford spokesman in an email. The figure is more than 100 percent because some models have been given at least twice in this period of five years, said the spokesman.

Ford last week announced that they would leave a minimum of three-cylinder engine in its history, the next two years.

On Tuesday, Ford said that in 2020, about 55 percent of its total car sales of small cars should be mini-cars. In addition, Ford said its Asia-Pacific and Africa sales were up almost a third of its turnover in 2020.

Ford executives in New York to meet Wall Street analysts in the strategies of long-term growth and efforts to further strengthen the balance sheet. This session will take place on Tuesday afternoon.

Ford CEO Alan Mulally said in an interview with CNBC separately on Tuesday morning that the company has left the "survival mode" and is ready for significant sales growth around the world.

Mulally took over chief executive of Ford in 2006 and turned around the company, he showed a surplus from its sales for each of its last seven quarters. From 2006 to 2008, Ford lost 30 billion dollars.

Ford shares on Tuesday morning were up 1.2 percent to $ 14.08 per share.
